Precipitated barium sulfate is widely used in battery manufacturing as an inorganic expansion agent. Precipitation barium sulfate is used in the common manufacturing process of batteries.It also prevents the specific surface area of lead from shrinking during battery charging.

The addition amount of barium sulfate is 0.5-1.0% of the weight of lead powder of the negative plate, which is indispensable among all types of active substances in the negative electrode of lead batteries. It has similar lattice parameters to lead sulfate, and is an isocrystalline substance. The highly dispersed barium sulfate exists in the negative active substance, which can be used as the crystallization center of lead sulfate during discharge.
